HUNT #5

The hunt was a very good success! We had 30 people who hunted and the reports are still coming in, and the amount of finds are amazing. We had one hunter that never found a silver coin since he started hunt earlier this year. I told him he will get his first silver coin if he went to the hunt and boy did he. He found his first silver coin, a 1904 Barber Quarter! Way to go Brian!

HERE ARE SOME OF THE WATER FINDS FROM THE LAKE AT

CAMP ROSENTHAL

THE CAMP OFFICE MANAGER SPOKE TO ALL OF US DURING OUR WONDERFUL LUNCH THEY PROVIDED ABOUT JUST THE DAY BEFORE ONE OF THE COUNCILORS LOST HIS GOLD DIAMOND RING EITHER ON THE BEACH OR BY THE PICNIC TABLES AND ASKED IF WE FOUND IT WOULD WE PLEASE RETURN IT. WE ALL AGREED.

DAVE MCLAREN WAS THE HUNTER THAT FOUND THE RING AND RETURNED IT TO THE COUNCILOR.

THANKS DAVE

In the early 1960"s is when CYC (Chicago Youth Centers)  Chicago's  largest locally based independant youth development organization purchased Camp Rosenthal. Founded in 1956, CYC has been working with kids and helping them dream big dreams and succeed in school and in life. Prior to CYC's ownership of the camp Chicago YMCA was the previous owner of this great Camp.

The Boy and Girl Scouts have had there Jamberee's at this camp. I spoke to the historian and manager of Camp Rosenthal and they it dated back 12 years since the last time they were there in the jamberee format. Youth Band Camps, Chicago Childrens choir to name just a few are also some of the orginizations that have used the Camp for there practices.

Alot of Corporations like Whirpool have had there annual picnics here.

The camp dining hall is large enough for all campers to eat together family style. The food is delicious and pleniful-no one leaves a meal hungry.

For more information on the camp itself, go to the camps web site and check it out in more detail go to there camp sign above and "click" on it and it will take you to their web site.

Camp Rosenthal is located on 530 acres in Southwest Michigan. With a 30 acre private lake, and a couple miles of trails that can take you all around the property. With the camp having such a vast nature area of  530 acres some precations should be taken.  If you are planning on going into the woods the camp recommended that you wear boots and snake chaps. They have had some Michigan rattle snakes and water moccasins sighted in the past. Please if you have any questions about this call the camp directly about this and they will fill you in.

Water Moccasin

This site has not been hunted by a metal detector!

The amount of Clubs and organizations  that have attended this camp is amazing. I did a quick scan of a couple of areas and found that alot of the coins are at around 4 to 6 inches in depth. There is alot of open areas were the kids play soccer, kickball, volleyball, baseball or just messing around. There is camping areas as well as cottages that are available for them to stay in. The camp is quite spread out with plenty of area to metal detect. This will be a great hunt for all who attend. Bring a freind or two or Three or more....
